CD-Mediacting S.a.r.l., already deeply involved in the business of recordable media and industrial replication, has just won the representation rights for Falcon Technologies products. This is a complete range, from the simple 12 cm CD through to the 8.5 Gb double layer DVD+/R DL.
The particular feature of top of the range products is that they provide excellent protection against scratches and have an increased data permanence thanks to the clever use of a gold/silver alloy in the reflective layer.
This feature prevents the oxidation which can occur when using other metals such as aluminium and some silver alloys.
The range is completed by 8 cm CDs and DVDs, also available with anti-scratch protection and a top layer that can be personalisedusing thermal or ink-jet printing. Falcon Technologies is the only CD manufacturer whose management is Swiss in origin, a fact which allows it to emphasise its impeccable quality.
CD-R and DVD-R recordable media offer the best value for money in archiving today.
Because of their minimal weight and space requirements they are the undisputed leaders in digital data storage.
Whether for domestic or professional use, the CD-R has, in less than 10 years, become the quickest and simplest means of storing music, photos, films, text and data bases.
We know today that under typical conditions, their life span is at least 30 years, or, broadly speaking, more than a generation.
However, it is not the media itself whose permanence is called into question by certain specialists but rather the tools that read them!
Now dating back some twenty years, the history of the CD-ROM is a testament to its astonishing longevity. The fact is that the DVD, with its almost universal distribution in the areas of audio, video, games and file transfer is very familiar indeed.
Some decisive advantages are now adding to this already very impressive situation; the fact that, notably, X-ray and other metal detectors which are becoming more and more commonplace at airports, do not affect their content any more than magnetic fields and to a certain extent light.
And let’s add a note of humour and state that, at this moment in time, no virus is capable of affecting the quality of recorded data!
So there it is! Maybe it will put an end to that common idea that wants to dismiss these 17 grammes of happiness just a little too quickly.
