Advantages of the CD format over the vinyl disc:

• Since the disc reading procedure occurs without any mechanical contact, the CD does not undergo any changes due to surface friction and so does not wear.
• Its diameter is only 12 cm.
• The plastic (polycarbonate) which the CD is made of is not affected by heat (does not deform at over 60 degrees Celsius).
• The dynamic of audio CDs (one of the parameters which defines the sound quality) is greater than that of the vinyl disc.
• An error correction system allows a perfect reconstitution of the data even when it is not possible to read certain disc sectors or areas.

• The CD will last for longer than a century if it is handled with care by those who use it.
